Sunless tanning is a (quite simply) tanning without the sun!** This can be done through tanning booths, tanning lotions and creams, or spray tanning. Because prom falls in the beginning of the spring, that doesn’t leave you much time to get outside and catch some rays. Find out what makes sunless tanning so great, and how you can get the perfect tan for prom.
Let’s start with the benefits. Sunless tanning has a number of benefits, including the fact that it can be done anywhere, anytime. Sunless tanning is also safer than tanning in the sun, and can easily be regulated. You control how much color your skin gets!
Develop a regimen. Whether you choose to utilize a tanning booth or want to take the bronzing route, it’s important to schedule a routine. This will ensure that you get an even and fashionable tan.
Find your method. There are three main methods of sunless tanning: spray tanning, tanning lotion, and salon tanning.
- Spray tanning is when a layer of color is applied to the top layer of skin. This method of tanning will wash away with time, and will require more than one application. If you’re pressed for time, airbrush tanning is the best route.
- Tanning lotion can take a few applications to show any bronzing. The great thing about tanning lotion is that it moisturizes the skin as it works. The lotion contains DHA, and when combined with amino acids found in your body, produces a tan.
- Tanning booths are another option. You can lay or stand in these booths, where you’ll be for 5-20 minutes, depending on personal preference. Many tanning salons offer a variety of tanning beds, depending on the color you want.
Avoid Issues: Prevent your skin from streaks, blotches, or stripes by exfoliating prior to any sunless tanning. Exfoliating will remove dead cells and allow for a fresh, even layer of skin. If you are using tanning lotion or spray tanning, be sure to apply it in thin, even coats. Start by using a light or medium shade and work your way up to a darker one to avoid an “orange” glow. To avoid covering your hands in self tanner, wear gloves when applying or have a professional, like Majestic Sun, apply a spray tan for you. If a tanning bed is more your style, be sure to apply a moisturizing bronzer prior to getting into the bed to protect your skin from drying out.
It’s possible to get a gorgeous tan without help from the sun! Find what option is right for you to get an even and beautiful color on your skin for prom.
