High Neckline Prom Dress 2014After returning from my first (of many) prom gown buying trips, it is clear that the freshest 2015 prom styles evoke a sense of elegance and sophistication. Although I saw hundreds of traditional prom fashions, including sequin dresses and ball gowns, a more understated and slim silhouette dominated the runways. Prom designers showcased a number of beautiful dresses that used unusual fabric and design elements to create chic fashions that will turn the heads of even the most discerning prom fashionistas!

Elegant Classics: After seeing a resurgence of lace fabric and embellishments in the 2014 collections, I can safely say that lace is here to stay! The feminine and delicate prom styles created with lace fabrications and appliques were shown in many shapes including mermaid, column, ball gown and a-line designs. By incorporating lace into these prom dresses, designers are able to add a true touch of elegance and sophistication.

Trending Now: Necklines are getting higher! This trend started with celebrities and was definitely reflected on the runway. Not only did I see a lot of halter necks, but there were many dresses made with wide straps and necklines completely covered with illusion fabric and embellished with rhinestones, appliques, or both.

Timeless Pieces: Many of the traditional prom styles that we have come to see a lot of in recent years are still being shown on the runway. Dresses that feature low backs, cut-out sides, or high front slits, as well as dresses made with chiffon skirts, illusion fabrics, and sequins remain favorites amongst prom goers. The quintessential prom looks, including full skirts and lines, also had a minor presence on the runway this season.

Sophisticated Colors: Prom dresses using champagne and nude fabrics are still a designer favorite. Other popular colors include navy, jewel tones like cranberry and emerald, as well as black. Although these are traditionally fall favorites, prom designers have fallen in love with these more sophisticated hues for spring.

Consider these runway looks when you’re shopping for a dress this prom season!
